Healthy Competition: The HX360 Innovation Challenge

In his excellent book about patient experience called Service Fanatics, Dr. James Merlino starts the book with this quote from Maya Angelou:

“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

Dr. Merlino – who recently left his post as Chief Patient Experience Officer at the Cleveland Clinic to become president and chief medical officer of Press Ganey’s strategic consulting division – knows what he is talking about, having led Cleveland Clinic’s journey to become one of the most responsive, patient-centered health systems in America.

Other health systems have clearly recognized the importance of dramatically enhancing their commitment to service excellence and a high quality, positive patient experience.  To support this effort, innovators across the U.S. and around the world have risen to the challenge of creating ways to help the health systems world transform the patient experience to one that is memorable for the right reasons.

In support of this goal, HX360 is beyond excited to announce its first annual HX360 Innovation Challenge.  The event, produced by HX360, is a joint initiative between AVIA (the provider-led health care technology accelerator) and HIMSS.

The HX360 Innovation Challenge is designed to identify, highlight and recognize digital health, healthcare IT and IT-enabled healthcare services companies that are making the most significant contributions to improving the Patient Experience as it relates to hospitals and health systems.  The competition is intended to give innovators in this sector the chance to show their solutions to senior health system executives and venture investors who share this commitment to improving the healthcare system experience for consumers.

Companies that are market ready or revenue stage are welcome to compete in the HX360 Innovation Challenge.  Unlike typical challenges, this one will result in concrete new business opportunities for the two winners.  The two prizes of $50K cash and $25K in legal services will be used to fund pilots at health systems.  AVIA will help the winners place those pilots and secure the agreements with U.S. health systems committed to the very best in patient experience outcomes.

Plus, we are making this fun.  Up to 64 companies can compete and our amazing judges, including Dr. Merlino, will narrow down to 4 company finalists who will pitch, final four style, during HIMSS 2015 (at McCormick Place in Chicago) before a large audience of health systems executives, venture capitalists and industry leaders.  The finalist event will take place April 14, 2015 at 2 pm and we will follow this event with a basketball themed reception and a basket shootout for charity.
